During cold weather, where is ice likely to form?

Ice is likely to form on bridges and overpasses primarily due to the fact that these structures are exposed to cold air both above and below. Unlike roads that are surrounded by the ground, which retains heat, bridges and overpasses can lose heat more rapidly, causing temperatures on their surfaces to drop more quickly. This can lead to the formation of ice, particularly in cold weather.

In contrast, parking lots may retain some heat from the ground and landscaping, while highways typically have more traffic that can help keep the road surface warmer due to tire friction. Sunny areas would generally see reduced likelihood for ice formation due to direct sunlight. Inside tunnels, while they may be cooler than outside, they are usually shielded from direct exposure to cold weather conditions, thus reducing the chances of ice developing there.
